Discovering Paradise
A free local favourite with palapa shade
Daaibooi is the beach locals point you to when you want the calm water and clear snorkeling of the west coast without paying for it. A relaxed cove of pale sand sits below low cliffs, with a row of thatched palapas that hand out free shade on a first-come basis, a genuine rarity on an island where most shade costs money. The water is calm, clear and gently shelving, ideal for an unhurried swim.
The rocky shoulders at each end of the bay hold reef fish and make for an easy snorkel close to shore, and the sheltered cove stays comfortable for children. A small snack bar usually operates, but facilities are simple, in keeping with the no-fee, low-key feel. Weekends bring local families with coolers and music; weekdays are quiet.
Daaibooi sits near Sint Willibrordus within easy reach of the polished Playa Cas Abao and the double-reef snorkeling at Playa Porto Mari, so it slots neatly into a central west-coast beach day, especially as the free option.
