Physical Req.
Open-water diving fitness and a current certification. Beach entries involve walking over rocks or sand in gear, so basic mobility and comfort in the water are needed.
Few places on earth make scuba this easy. On the calm, clear leeward coast of Curaçao you suit up at the shoreline, wade in, and within a few fin strokes you are over living reef. That freedom is why divers call the island the shore-diving capital of the Caribbean: dozens of marked entry points let you choose your own site, set your own pace, and dive with no boat schedule to chase.
Many of the signature sites are within reach of a beach entry. The Tugboat near Caracas Bay is a small, photogenic wreck sitting upright in shallow water, draped in coral and circled by fish, ideal for both divers and snorkelers. The Superior Producer, a cargo ship that sank off Willemstad, rests deeper and intact, one of the best wreck dives in the region. Out west, the Mushroom Forest, a field of mound-shaped star coral that looks exactly like its name, is usually reached by boat rather than from shore.
Many entries sit near the beaches of Bandabou and the dive coves around Playa Lagun, while wreck dives cluster near Willemstad and Caracas Bay. Bring or rent a tank and gear from a local shop, dive with a buddy, and check entry and exit conditions before every dive.
